Since 2014, the Division has hosted a workshop on freshwater mussel identification at MBD. The workshop designed and led by the late, great Dr. George Thomas Watters, Curator of the Division of Mollusks (2000-2019), a world expert on freshwater mussel systematics and survey techniques.
In 2021, friends and colleagues of Dr. Watters, spurred on by ODNR, OSU MBD, and the mysterious unseen forces of freshwater malacology, assembled an all-star team of Ohio mussel experts to continue the workshop into the future.
