The silence of the clams.

Freshwater mussel
August 4, 2017
All Day
Battelle-Darby Creek Metro Park, Georgesville, OH

Freshwater mussels play a crucial role in our ecosystems. However, they are some of the most imperiled animals on Earth and function as environmental indicators, helping us understand the true health of our planet.

For a registration fee of only $20 (includes lunch), researchers and education professionals, among them Tom Watters, curator of the mussel collection, will share freshwater mussel biology, identification, and threats to mussel populations through formal presentations and hands-on opportunities. In the afternoon, participants will explore the waters of scenic Darby Creek putting their newfound knowledge to use searching for mussels.

To register visit wildohio.gov (this workshop is part of project WILD, a wildlife-focused conservation education program for K-12 educators and their students).
