2026 Freshwater Mussel Workshop

Earlier this month we hosted a group of biologists from around the country here at The Museum of Biological Diversity for the 2026 Freshwater Mussel Workshop. Nate Shoobs, MBD's Curator of Invertebrate Zoology, teaches this annual workshop in collaboration with colleagues from the Ohio Department of Natural Resources, the Ohio Department of Transportation, and the US Fish and Wildlife Service. Participants learned how to identify and survey for over 60 species of freshwater mussels, and had the opportunity to study the world's largest collection of freshwater bivalves!
